The Leisure Ship

✦ LEISURE STATION ✦

Here. Here. They are coming.
... We have trained them to think of the Future as a promised land which favored heroes attain ...
✦ The Leisure Station - Overview.

The Owmi are not All Work and No Play. They understand the need for down time between their Community Service hours and Professional Jobs. Work is stressful. They have various local amenities on the Habitat Station, but when they need a true holiday, they book time on the Leisure Station.

This is not a free amenity provided by the Owmi, everyone who wishes to spend time on the Leisure Station must pay for their holiday. Either the characters must get a job, or have very generous friends in order to use the facilities of the Leisure Station.

✦ What does the Station look like?

The Leisure Ship bears some resemblance to the Habitat Station in configuration. Two sets of rings, an inner central station, all connected by enclosed causeways. However, there are some notable differences. It is not quite so big as the Habitat Station. The inner ring is singular, not a set of two rings. And the poles of the central segment of the station end in spheres that look like the agricultural stations. In fact, they are designed for similar purposes.

The Station has three sections: two sets of concentric rings surrounding the central portion of the station.

Central Station:
The Central Station - The Station's power cores and command functions are located in Center Station. Station administration, government, maintinence, and security are all headquartered in central portion of the Center Station. This station has two cold fusion cores, one located in the center of each spheroid polar end. These cores power the whole station, and they also serve as the 'light source' for the spheroid ends.

These spheroid ends are comprised of independant, interlocking hexagonal panels that can function as separate parts or connect with group to form a polyhedron sphere around an inner cold fusion core. Each panel is cultivated to support geological features. One spheroid contains tropical geological features, the other temperate features.

Inner Ring:
This inner ring has two halves, top and bottom. Each half grounds its gravity towards the center of the ring, so that 'up' is always looking out the view port ceilings - which can be programmed to depict any kind of sky or be transparent so that you can see the stars. There are specific transports that are designed to travel from one gravitational direction to the other.

One half of the inner ring is one continuous artificial beach. The sand color changes at various points around the ring. Hotels with all the amenities one could hope for can be found all across the beach.

The other half of the inner ring is a series of concert and event venues, casinos, restaurants, and what we would generally call city night life.

Outer Ring:
The Outer Ring contains the hanger bays for small to medium sized ships and the docking spires for large ships that cannot park in the hanger bays. This is also where the warehouse and storage bay districts are located. Everyone enters the Leisure Station from the outer ring. From here, visitors board transports to their final vacation destination.

This is also where most of the crew and hospitality workers live.

All three sections are connected by a series of encased causeways. These causeways are numerous, and make the station look like a spoked wheel when viewed from the top down (or bottom up).

The station also has strong shields that protect against space radiation, small debris, large debris, small/moderate weapons attacks, and hull breaches.

✦ What is on the Station?

The primary function of the Leisure Station is to provide a place within the Fleet where residents can go to have a holiday from their mundane life. This is a resort station, with different sections of the station providing different holiday diversions.

SPHERIOD NATURE SCAPES

The end of each pole of the center station is capped by a sphere made from polyhexagonal panels. Each spheroid end contains a different kind of nature scape. Spheroid A is a temperate climate zone. Spheroid B is a tropical climate zone. Each spheroid offers a variety of different amenities for someone to enjoy the scenery.

Description:
The hexagonal panels of Spheroid A are all fitted with nature scapes of a temprate climate. There are mixed forests of deciduous and coniferous trees, with evergreens being the predominant trees the further up on the mountain sides. There are a few different ranges of mountains within this spheroid, some being quite sheer, whereas others blend into rolling foot hills. There are also a number of lakes and rivers. So there is a variety of different scenes for people to enjoy.

There are also a number of different resorts from a lodge with many rooms for holiday rent and snow time fun activities to enjoy, to individual treehouse pods that can room up to four individuals. People can also go camping and hiking.

There are some non-violent, non-dangerous wildlife in this spheroid, and the spheroid horticulturists maintain the populations well - these animals come in the forms of birds, rodents, fish and mussles in the bodies of water, small animals and herbivores. Though, none of these animals will be from Earth.

Description:
The hexagonal panels of Spheroid B are all fitted with nature scapes of a tropical climate. There are rainforests, ribboned with rivers and dotted with some low mountain ranges. For a fee, people can stay in one of a number of resorts situated in the heart of these rainforests. There are also numerous tropical island resorts, with clear waters and sandy beaches.

There are some non-violent, non-dangerous wildlife in this spheroid, and the spheroid horticulturists maintain the populations well - these animals come in the forms of birds, rodents, small animals and herbivores. Most notable are the colorful fish and aquatic life that live in the reefs built up around the islands. Though, none of these animals will be from Earth.

The resorts of Spheroid B are the most popular among the Owmi.

INNER RING SECTIONS

The Inner Ring section is composed of two sections. The 'top' half is one giant ring of beaches and waterfront resorts. The 'bottom' half is a city night life adventure. The gravity of each section is centered in the middle of the ring so both sections 'look up' towards a transparent view port ceiling that can remain completely transparent or depict various sky settings.

Inner Ring (Top) Section A: Beach Ring

Description:
Section A of the Inner ring is one continuous coast line of beaches and waterfront resorts. The waves are simulated to get that just right sound of water crashing against the shore. The sandy beaches range from white sand, to black sand, to purple sand, to red sand. Some of the shore lines aren't beaches at all, but rocky waterfronts. Take your pick - which shore do you want to spend your holiday looking upon?

At 'night' the transparent view port ceiling is set so that the stars are visable. During the day, the veiw port simulates the progression of a sun crossing the sky - though the skyline will be different based on the beach/waterfront location.

Description:
Section B of the Inner Rings is basically a city of hotels, restaurants, casinos, concert venues, entertaiment exhibits. Think New York combined with Las Vegas. Everything is opulant and showy. Not much of the entertainment is what would be called High Brow, though there are some theaters and opera houses in this section. Most of the enertainment, however, is there to entertain as many people as possible. The hotels are lavish and have the best views of the 'city' skyline and the stary view from the transparent view port ceiling. And the restaurants serve the finest food the Fleet has to offer.

Spend a day at the beach in Section A of the Inner Ring and then for dinner, pop on down to a fabulous restaurant and a show.

Outer Ring:
The Outer Ring serves two parts, it is the main point of entry into the Leisure Station, and it is the industrial sector of the station. To support these two functions, basic needs are also found on the Outer Ring: Residential Communities, stores that sell basic necessities, and inexpensive restaurants.

Docking Ports/Hanger Bays:
Description:
Almost all the docking with the Leisure Station, whether temporarily or permanently – is handled in the Outer Ring. There are a few docking ports in the other parts of the station, but those are more for emergency dockings or for important dignitaries that might need a more private entrance to the station.

Warehouse/Cargo Storage:
Description:
The warehouses and storage units for the Leisure Station are located in the Outer Ring near the docking ports and hanger bays.

Center Station:
The central most part of the Station houses the equipment and facilities that run and maintain the Leisure Station. Most of the Station's government and administration offices are also found in Center Station (some lower level government and administration offices are located in the Outer Ring and Inner Rings sections of the Station). As with the Outer Ring, to support the stations functions, basic needs are also found in the central station: Residential Communities, stores that sell basic necessities, and inexpensive restaurants. Characters will have no access to Command, Engineering/maintenance, non-public parts of Administration.

Command:
Description:
Command oversees the function of the station as it pertains to space. They coordinate with the other vessels when it's time to move to a new location. They also maintain its position within the fleet when the fleet is parked somewhere. They also oversee engineering and maintenance of the station.

Engineering and Maintenance:
Description:
Engineering and maintenance headquarters are found on Center Station. They oversee the stable functioning of the Station's hardware and software. A station this large would not be complete without a maintenance force tasked with keeping it running. The energy cores and various energy mainframes that fuel the Station are located in this part of the Station. The energy cores are surrounded by almost impenetrable heat shields that contain the cores and protect the rest of the ship from the cores.

Emergency Services:
Description:
The Central Station houses the headquarters for the emergency services consisting of: fire, police/security, paramedics, and repairs/maintenance. They also manage the safety of the Station's population.

Station Transportation Network:
Within the Leisure Station there is a vast transportation network that moves people and things from one end to the next.

Causeways:

Description:
Enclosed causeways connect each section of the Leisure Station. These causeways are pressurized and have life support, but their primary function is moving people and things from one section of the station to the next. There are also causeways within each section of the station, serving the function of transporting people and things within each section. It's like a space subway system.

There are:
Public Transport Tunnels/lanes
Commercial Transport Tunnels/lanes
Private Vehicle Tunnels/lanes
Maintenance Tunnels
Emergency Tunnels/lanes

For the most part, tunnels designated for one type of transportation (Public, private, maintenance, etc.) are generally used for that purpose. But all tunnels are interconnected for safety and function so that in emergency situations, one tunnel can be co-opted for a different purpose as needs be.

Walkways:
photo walkway 001_zpsxyzuurhk.jpg photo walkway 002_zpssapx9jlh.jpg
photo walkway 003_zpsqch5zevk.jpg photo walkway 004_zps4mdjmila.jpg
Description:
Just as there are tunnels for vehicular transportation, there are walkways for pedestrians and pedestrian powered vehicles (think bikes) or vehicles with very small engine outputs (think segways). Some walkways and thoroughfares are more simplistic and utilitarian in design (some are more industrial in certain areas). Some are quite scenic and artistic with accompanying gardens in their architectural designs.

Vertical Mobilities:

photo lifts and escalators 003_zpss4hatc0s.jpg photo lifts and escalators 004_zpsonohvtj6.jpg
Description:
The station also has many lifts, elevators, escalators, and old fashioned stairs to move people and things from one level to the next. And just like with the walkways, some are simplistic and utilitarian, some quite industrial in design, and some are very artistic and scenic. Some can only transport a few number of people at a time, others can move a large number of individuals from one level to the next.

Public Transportation:

photo public transportation 003_zpsebspdnoe.jpg photo public transportation 004_zpsb1znmvfo.jpg
Description:
Most Owmi do not own personal means of conveyance. They use the public transportation provided on the station.

Most public transportation consists of trains, segmented cars linked together. These trains can move hundreds of people at a time. Personal taxi services also exist and can be hired to move individuals or small parties of people from one part of the station to the next.

The Owmi pride themselves on the efficiency of their public transportation. Trains are rarely late.

These trains utilize magnetic-lift technology or anti-gravity-lift technology. The causeways are built to accommodate both.
